Judy Catambay is a California-based artist, educator and community artist. Judy worked for many years as a mixed-media painter, and was drawn to ceramics as a means to create free flowing forms and textures inspired by nature. She brings a painter’s technique to her sculptural ceramic work through many layers of glazes with rich textures and saturated colors. She draws inspiration from elements and creatures in the natural world - exploring themes of beauty and decay, light and loss, and our place as guardians of nature. She works with ever-changing forms, allowing chance, spontaneity and life’s narratives to guide the process.

Judy Catambay received a BFA at SJSU, working with Randy Sadler and Rupert Garcia. She studied painting at Sheffield Polytechnic School of Art in England. She started art programs in mental health agencies and low-income family projects. She has led several large scale community art projects, including several street murals that bring people together to be part of the creation adding beauty and vibrancy to the neighborhood and expressing their communities’ values. Her artwork has been exhibited in various galleries and establishments. She has taught art throughout the Bay Area, and currently she is an art teacher and mentor in Davis helping students to find their unique visual voice through individual and collaborative art projects.
